Selma Blair Arrested After Wild Flight Incident

Selma Blair is accused of attacking two flight attendants on a Delta flight, then kicking a police officer and a hospital nurse after landing. She has pleaded not guilty to state assault charges.

Selma Blair’s flight from Los Angeles to New York allegedly ended with two injured flight attendants, a police officer being kicked in the face, a nurse being kicked at the hospital and the actor facing both state and federal legal trouble.

Authorities say the incident unfolded Sunday night aboard a Delta Air Lines flight bound for JFK Airport. Blair is accused of assaulting two flight attendants during the trip, including allegedly punching one and biting another.

According to Associated Press reporting, prosecutors say Blair later kicked a police officer repeatedly in the face, neck and chest after officers met the plane. She is also accused of kicking a nurse after being taken to a hospital for evaluation.

Blair has pleaded not guilty to two state assault charges. She also faces separate federal charges connected to the alleged conduct aboard the aircraft.

Her attorney says the episode was caused by a severe medical event involving missed medication, exhaustion and an injury during the flight. Blair’s representative says she became confused and disoriented and has emphasized her documented medical history.

That explanation will be part of the legal process, but it does not erase the allegations. Prosecutors and investigators will still have to determine what happened, what Blair’s condition was at the time and whether any medical impairment affects criminal responsibility.

There is a temptation with celebrity stories like this to jump immediately into tabloid mode, but the details are already dramatic enough without adding glitter. Two flight attendants, a police officer and a hospital nurse are four separate people authorities say were caught up in the same episode.

Delta issued a statement reiterating its zero-tolerance policy for unruly behavior aboard flights. Airlines have become increasingly aggressive about referring serious in-flight incidents to law enforcement, particularly when crew members are allegedly assaulted.

Blair is best known for films including “Cruel Intentions” and “Legally Blonde” and has become a prominent disability advocate after publicly disclosing her multiple-sclerosis diagnosis in 2018. Her health history is relevant because her defense has directly cited a medical episode, but it does not independently prove what caused the conduct alleged by police.

The actor has also had a prior highly publicized in-flight incident. In 2016, Blair was removed from a plane after what she later described as a frightening episode involving alcohol and medication, for which she apologized.

The current case is substantially more serious because prosecutors allege actual physical assaults. State charges relate to the officer and nurse, while federal authorities have jurisdiction over alleged crimes committed aboard the aircraft.

Blair’s next court date is scheduled for January. Until then, the allegations remain just that: allegations, not convictions.

The strange part is how quickly an ordinary celebrity travel day allegedly escalated across jurisdictions. What began somewhere between Los Angeles and New York is now a case involving airline staff, airport police, hospital personnel, state prosecutors and federal authorities.

Most people complain about a cross-country flight because the Wi-Fi stopped working. This one ended with overlapping criminal cases.
