Trump is selling early access to his posts for $100K a month. Experts say it’s insider trading

Trump Media and Technology Group is selling a product called Truth API, which charges hedge funds and high-frequency trading firms up to $100,000 a month, or $60,000 a month on a three-year plan, for milliseconds-faster access to Trump’s Truth Social posts before they reach the general public. Congressional investigators have opened multiple probes. Legal experts are calling it insider trading. One analyst called it “the greatest trick in the history of insider trading.” Trump owns roughly 41% of Trump Media through a trust he controls, which means the president of the United States is selling early access to his own market-moving communications and collecting a percentage of the revenue.

Rep. Jamie Raskin, ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee, wrote: “Trump Media will soon be selling early access to President Trump’s so-called ‘Truth’ missives to the most sophisticated investment firms in the world. This insider-information scheme will enable Wall Street to profit from the President’s frequent market-moving posts on major businesses and cash in on swings in stock prices caused by the President’s buying and selling of publicly traded stocks to unwitting retail investors.” The product launches officially August 1. A speed advantage of just a few milliseconds can result in hundreds of thousands of dollars of gains on high-frequency trades, per the HuffPost report confirmed from Reuters.

The precedent for concern is not abstract. Trump’s 2025 financial disclosures reported more than 21,000 financial transactions and stock trades, to which he added another 3,600 to 3,700 trades in the first quarter of 2026. CNN found that Trump and his financial associates made at least 44 stock purchases across 21 companies, each purchase preceded days earlier by positive Truth Social posts about those companies. Trump invested between $200,000 and $500,000 in Nvidia on April 15. Days later he posted promoting Nvidia’s plans to build AI supercomputers in the US and vowed to expedite all permits for Nvidia and similar firms. That sequence existed before Truth API made the early-access arbitrage a product with a monthly fee.

Kathleen Clark of Washington University School of Law told HuffPost: “He’s selling expedited, privileged access to information about what he is doing as president. It’s yet more brazen corruption, an improper exploitation of government power to enrich himself.” Legal experts who spoke to The Atlantic noted that the idea “reeks of insider trading” but that the law “may simply not have caught up” because the situation is unprecedented. No government officials have been prosecuted under insider trading laws despite the prohibition being extended to federal officials in 2012.

Congressional probes are open. The product launched. The law is catching up.

When the president sells milliseconds-faster access to his own market-moving posts and congressional investigators describe it as an insider-information scheme, what exactly is the presidency selling?
