Mamdani is a Muslim. His candidates won. He thanked God in Arabic. The conservative media ecosystem that publishes Franklin Graham’s election night commentary about God’s favor for Republican outcomes, that covered Trump’s post-assassination-attempt statement that God spared him to save America, and that has treated the phrase “God bless America” as the correct way to end every political speech since at least the Nixon administration, discovered that expressing faith in an electoral outcome becomes alarming when the faith is expressed in Arabic.

Trump called the winning candidates “communists” and pledged on Truth Social: “America the Beautiful will NEVER be a Communist Country!!!” He said this about candidates running in safely Democratic congressional seats in New York City, which will remain safely Democratic congressional seats in November regardless of the exclamation marks.
