Fery told reporters: “So, yeah, playing in front of tennis legends, and now the Queen, it’s special.” He added: “I told her how much of an honour it was for me to play in front of her, and she just said, ‘Congratulations, keep going.'” He also told her it was his birthday on Sunday, and said it would be great to play the Wimbledon final on his birthday, which he disclosed to the Queen of the United Kingdom in a conversation that started because she walked up while he was tying his shoes. She responded, per the accounts, warmly.
Kate and William sent congratulations from Kensington Palace’s official account: “Congratulations to Arthur Fery on becoming the first British wildcard to reach the Gentlemen’s Singles semi-finals in the Open Era, a fantastic achievement that has inspired so many. Wishing you the very best for the next round.” Kate had her cancer in remission. William is heir to the throne. The account wished him the best for the next round.
